Who is Teaching?
Carles Expósito Rovira is a performing arts physiotherapist specialising in the artistic voice. He is the chairman of AMPAE (the Spanish Association of Performing Arts Medicine) and a board member of ENPPA (European Network of Physiotherapists in Performing Arts). Carles teaches at the Conservatory of Music of the Balearic Islands and the University of the Balearic Islands. His research focuses on proprioception in the artistic voice.
Course Overview
The voice is a finely tuned instrument, produced by systems and structures whose primary functions ensure our survival.
Tensions in the voice can arise from numerous causes. For singers, understanding how the voice works and incorporating techniques to release tension is vital for optimising vocal performance. By integrating these strategies into their daily practice and motor patterns, singers can improve motor control and create the conditions necessary for developing vocal technique more effectively.

Course Objectives

    • Strategies to enhance rib cage movement during breathing.
    • Using ultrasound imagery to observe abdominal muscle function and its relationship with the pelvic floor during singing.
  • Functional Anatomy of the Larynx
    • Understanding how the larynx operates and how it relates to vocal function.
  • The Importance of Proprioception in Singing
    • What is proprioception, and why does it matter for singers?
    • Exploring interoception and exteroception.
  • Using Proprioception to Enhance Vocal Sensation
    • Sensory bombardment of the vocal tract to improve awareness.
      • Tools and gadgets (including using and understanding ultrasound imaging)
      • Manual grips.
    • Learning new motor control mechanisms to improve vocal technique.
Teaching Methods

This course combines both practical and theoretical components. The aim is to equip participants with skills and knowledge that they can apply immediately after completing the course.
