How will counselling skills support my work with voice users?

It can help you understand the impact you have on your clients

  • You will have an opportunity to understand what part of ourselves may interfere with both the teaching and learning process.
  • It will support you to understand issues outside of your conscious awareness and how this may impact your interactions with others.

Transference and countertransference

  • You will learn how personalities interact with each other and how learned behaviours can follow us through life, impacting both the student and teacher.

Learn about therapeutic models

  • Theoretical learning will support your business with boundaries, contracting as well as underpinning relationships.
  • In addition, it will give you an understanding of the key theorists in counselling.

Support you to feel more confident working with new and existing clients.

Enhance your listening skills.

Creative interventions that will support a sense of self

  • The skills will help you understand how fear and anxiety can directly impact your clients and therefore their learning, by understanding the impact of the autonomic nervous system (ANS)
  • The course will offer space to discuss ethical dilemmas and knowledge that will support you to know where to refer clients if mental health needs arise
  • Emotional stress can affect the voice –

This course is available to all who have qualified as Vocal Health First Aiders.  No other prior experience is required, the course will offer the first steps you need to follow a professional career in counselling, or to enhance your teaching skills.  Just bring your curious self and a willingness to learn the expertise needed to practice as a counsellor.

This course alone does not qualify you as a practicing counsellor or give access to the Accredited Register.  It is recognised by the NCS as the first stepping stone that is required to access higher level courses in counselling.  You will qualify for the Vocal Health Education insurance package that will cover the use of counselling skills within your vocal teaching studio.

The course will consist of 12 modules over 12 weeks.  These will be a mix of 50% online/face-to-face experiential learning and 50% workbooks with short assignments that will support your learning.

We want to look after you on your journey with Vocal Health Education; so we limit the places available on our courses in order to give you that personal treatment. If the places are sold out, you will have another chance to register for your Vocal Health First Aid qualification next month.

Additionally, we provide supporting material for Units 1-7 in the form of PDFs. These documents have all the slides shown in the films and are downloadable for your personal use only.

However, before your second attempt at the quiz you may return to the unit content to revise and look over any notes you have made. If after your second attempt you do not reach a 65% pass mark, you will be required to resit that individual unit. This will be arranged with the VHFA Course Leader.

To resit units that didn’t reach the 65% pass mark after the second attempt will be subject to a £47 (incl. VAT) administration fee. This fee will cover all units needing to be re-sat. This can be purchased from our website.

21 days to complete the 1-2-1 interview

Once Units 1-7 are successfully completed, you will have a 1-2-1 interview with an assessor to complete Unit 8 of the course.
