Course summary

This mindfulness course has been specifically designed for professional singers, voice students, vocal coaches and teachers, and vocal health specialists. During this course you will learn practical mindfulness exercises targeted towards singers and musicians which can be then be used in your own practices or tailored to your own coaching or teaching requirements. There are also psychological and evidence-based educational elements to give you a practical and theoretical awareness of the effects of learning mindfulness on singers and musicians. There is good empirical evidence that learning mindfulness can help participants learn more skillful ways to deal with music performance anxiety, but there is also evidence that it has a wide range of positive effects on music lessons, solo practice, ensemble rehearsals, and during performance (Czajkowski, 2018; Czajkowski & Greasley, 2015; Czajkowski et al., 2020).

The course is 8 weeks in length and each session will take approximately 1 hour. Sessions 1-6 and session 8 are pre-recorded and session 7 is a practical online group session (date tbc). Participants are requested to dedicate at least 10 minutes mindfulness practice a day to gain most from the course. There is also a personal Log Book, an online forum for you to discuss your experiences with other members of the course, a mindfulness questionnaire to plot your development over the course, and a reference research document for further reading or exploration.
