Dr Jenevora Williams is a leading exponent in the field of vocal health and singing teaching. After a successful career in Opera, Jenevora turned her attention to investigating healthy and efficient vocal function. The combination of academic study and practical experience has resulted in a unique perception for understanding the human voice. She was the first singing teacher to be awarded a PhD in voice science in the UK, and won the 2010 BVA Van Lawrence Prize for her outstanding contribution to voice research. Her book, Teaching Singing to Children and Young Adults, has been enormously popular with singing teachers throughout the world. She is well-known for her imaginative and rigorous training courses for singing teachers in the UK, the US and Europe. As a teacher of singing, she works with professional singers of all ages, as well as training teachers in rehabilitation for Vocal Health Education and BAPAM.
Voice users from all over the world trust Stephen with their vocal recovery and rehabilitation. He has personally worked with Hollywood A-listers right through to World Champion Beatboxers, and owns the multidisciplinary VOICE CARE CENTRE in London’s West End. Passionate about professional development, Stephen has acquired a breadth of knowledge from his qualifications in Advanced Clinical Massage, Medical Acupuncture, Manual Maxillofacial Therapy, Spinal Manipulation, Anatomy (including human dissection) and Voice Pedagogy, and is now continuing his studies into Psychotherapy. As an advocate of health and wellbeing, Stephen co-founded the not for profit Vocal Health Education with Dr Jenevora Williams, seeking to educate every single voice user around the world on the subject of Vocal Health.
Christina Shewell, MA, FRCSLT ADVS, is a spoken voice teacher, and speech/ language therapist, and has long working experience with a wide range of clients in both voice therapy and voice development. She has particular expertise in working with performers, and other professional voice users, and has also worked as a coach with a range of business clients. For 11 years, she was senior lecturer in voice and counselling skills at University College London, has been a staff member of major British acting schools, and has spoken at many conferences. She leads a wide range of training courses, both nationally and internationally. Christina’s book Voice Work: Art and Science in Changing Voices (2009) addresses voice work along the continuum of normal-abnormal voice, in singing, spoken voice coaching and voice pathology, and is a core text for a wide range of voice practitioners. Her most recent article, Poetry, Voice, Brain and Body was recently published in the Voice and Speech Review – the journal of the Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA).
Kerrie Obert is a Speech Language Pathologist and Singing Voice Specialist from Columbus Ohio, USA. She has over 25 years’ experience as a voice specialist and is recognized as an international leader in her field. Ms. Obert spent the first 18 years of her career working in a busy voice clinic at The Ohio State University where she treated singers of every stripe and conducted thousands of laryngeal endoscopies. In addition to her clinical work, Ms. Obert taught voice at Capital University Music Conservatory and in her home studio. She is currently a founding partner of Integrated Vocal Pedagogy and Executive Principal of Get Vocal Now. Both of these organizations seek to provide evidence based pedagogy to improve voice training. Ms. Obert is actively involved in several research projects using MRI and endoscopic technology. She has written four books on voice and published numerous research articles.
Declan Costello is a consultant ear, nose and throat surgeon specialising in voice disorders (a laryngologist). He studied music at St John’s College, Cambridge, where he was a choral scholar under Christopher Robinson, and went on to study medicine at Imperial College. As a singer himself, he has a particular interest in treating voice disorders in performers. Having worked for ten years in Birmingham as a consultant, he moved to Wexham Park Hospital in Berkshire in 2018. He has published a number of books and has written many chapters, including the chapter on “Larynx” for the 42nd edition of “Gray’s Anatomy”. In the middle of 2020, at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, he helped to coordinate research on the perceived dangers of singing and aerosols. Markus Hess, MD, is a dedicated otolaryngologist and phoniatrician, subspecializing in laryngology, phonosurgery, and professional voice use. Dr. Hess graduated from University Medical School, Düsseldorf, and Freie Universität, Berlin. Since 1991 board-certified otolaryngologist and since 1995 board-certified phoniatrist. He accepted 1998 a position as full professor at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and Professorship for Phoniatrics. He is co-founder and Head of the first Voice Clinic in Germany since 2014: the MEDICAL VOICE CENTER. He specialized in the care of the performing voice and the treatment of all kinds of voice disorders. Dr. Hess has long-standing experience in performing endoscopic and open surgical procedures on the larynx. He has invented many techniques for diagnostics and surgical interventions in laryngology and holds a patent on LED-stroboscopy. Dr. Hess brings a multidisciplinary approach to such patients as public speakers, singers, and actors. His surgical patients receive cutting-edge minimally invasive techniques in laryngeal microsurgery as well as office-based voice surgery in topical anesthesia. Dr. Hess has authored and co-authored over hundred peer-reviewed articles in professional journals, book chapters, and textbooks. He is chair of Pan European Conferences (PEVOC) since 2015, a founding member of the ‘German Society of Phonosurgery’, founder and Executive Board member of the European Academy of Voice (EAV), Past-President of the international Collegium Medicorum Theatri (CoMeT) 2015-2018 and serves in multiple capacities on many international editorial and scientific boards and committees. Dr. Hess teaches regularly at national and international voice conferences and runs own courses in cutting-edge phonosurgery techniques.
Julian McGlashan FRCS(Otol.), Hon FRCSLT is a consultant Laryngologist and Head & Neck Surgeon at Nottingham University Hospitals and Honorary Consultant Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham. He specializes in voice and laryngeal disorders, thyroid and head & neck surgery. He works as a part of a multidisciplinary Voice Disorders Service team offering a tertiary referral service for the diagnosis and management of complex voice disorders. His main research interests are in voice measurement, imaging of the vocal folds, the effects of gastric reflux on the upper aerodigestive tract and the singing voice. He lectures widely in the UK, and abroad and is actively involved in teaching on postgraduate courses. He is a past-president of the British Voice Association and currently a committee member of the British Laryngological Association.
After laryngology fellowships in France and London, Kate Heathcote established the Robert White Centre for Airway, Voice and Swallow at the University Hospital Dorset. Here she offers cutting edge office based procedures to NHS patients. She has introduced techniques of laryngeal reinnervation into the UK and works to disseminate these techniques and the development of advanced laryngology services throughout the UK. She lectures and teaches internationally and has published papers and book chapters. As a council member of the British Laryngology Association and European Laryngological Society she helps shape the specialty in the present and for the future.
Walt Fritz is a physical therapist from Upstate New York, USA. Since beginning work as an educator in the physical and massage therapy domains in the mid-1990s, he has more recently applied a unique take on manual therapy for the speech pathology and voice communities. This approach attempts to move the bar from singular tissue-specific models into a multifactorial narrative, leaning heavily on biopsychosocial influences. Using a model of evaluation and intervention that relies more strongly on shared decision-making, the principles can be applied to the spectrum of intervention models. Seeing the utility of manual therapy not as a standalone treatment but as an integral part of clinicians’ more extensive body of work, Walt makes his approach easily assimilated into those treatment protocols. Maurice Goodwin is a licensed and practicing Speech Language Pathologist, voice teacher, and active performer now living in Houston, TX. Professionally he specializes in the evaluation and treatment of the singing voice and voice disorders at The Texas Voice Center. Following his undergraduate studies in music performance at Shenandoah University, he completed his graduate work in Speech Language Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh. During his time at the University of Pittsburgh Voice Center he completed his graduate thesis on the challenges and changes that occur in the voices of elderly adults. His background as a performer and speech pathologist led him to complete a fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Voice and Swallow Clinics in the treatment of singers, actors, teachers, and other occupational voice users with voice problems. He is a regular lecturer and presenter at conferences focused on the health and education of professional voice users. He is passionate about vocal health education and the intersections of identity and voice. LORI L. SONNENBERG is a Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, Clinical Voice Specialist and Singing Voice Specialist. With over 20 years’ experience in the Singing and Speech Pathology fields, she combines her passion for treating injured voices with her extensive background as a singer and voice teacher. This blend of talents and skills makes Ms. Sonnenberg a formidable asset to the clinical and singing voice worlds. Ms. Sonnenberg works exclusively with voice and breathing disorders and specializes in helping singers overcome voice injuries, muscle tension dysphonia, post-operative voice struggles, and problematic technical voice issues. She is a certified member of the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) holding the Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC-SLP) and is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). She is a former Speech Pathologist with Dr. Robert Bastian and Bastian Voice Institute in Downers Grove, IL, and has been teaching private voice since 1998.
Author, singer, and voice pedagogue, soprano Kari Ragan, was the 2012 recipient of the coveted Van L. Lawrence Fellowship. The Fellowship is awarded to candidates who have demonstrated excellence in their profession as singing teachers, and who have shown interest in, and knowledge of, voice science. The award is given jointly by The Voice Foundation (the world’s oldest and leading organization dedicated to voice research, medicine, science, and education) and the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). The topic of Dr. Ragan’s research for this fellowship was “The Efficacy of Vocal Cool-down Exercises for Singers.” Dr. Ragan earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree (2005) in vocal performance from the University of Washington, and both a Master of Music (1991), and Bachelor of Music (1987) in vocal performance from the prestigious Indiana University School of Music.
Duncan Rock – MMus, PGDip (nutritional science) – has an active international career as an operatic baritone. He has performed roles at The Metropolitan Opera, The Royal Opera, Teatro Real, Glyndebourne, English National Opera and many others. He is a Nutritionist and member of the Royal Society for Public Health. Eimear McCarthy Luddy is a singing teacher with a keen interest in vocal health and singing voice rehabilitation. She was the first Irish person to complete advanced training in voice science (also called vocology) at the National Centre for Voice and Speech in Salt Lake City and remains committed to expanding her training by completing regular CPD courses. She qualified from the Royal Irish Academy of Music with a Masters in Music Performance where she also conducted research investigating attitudes and practices toward vocal health in Ireland. As a singing teacher she maintains a busy practice from young students to professional singers. Eimear founded Vocology Ireland in 2020 with the goal of bringing an approachable voice science and vocal health resource to Irish shores. As part of this goal she presents voice science and vocal health education workshops for singers and singing teachers. She is also currently a vocal health trainer with the British Association for Performing Arts Medicine and a Vocal Health First Aid Assessor for Vocal Health Education.
Petra Raspel Borzynski is a vocal, somatic and cognitive behavioural coach and accredited therapist with special expertise in helping (performing) artists and creatives to perform better and despite their fears. She is currently one of the Solo Performance Specialists (Voice) for the University of the Highlands and Islands and works as a Cognitive Behavioural Coach for Google, helping performers and speakers all over the world sustain a (singing) career and find professional and personal fulfilment. Her work in the field of singing, creativity, performance anxiety and performance psychology has been featured at conferences, in several publications and podcasts. Petra holds a Diplom (German equivalent to a Masters Degree) from the Ruhr-Universität Bochum and also trained in Musical Theatre Performance at the Stage School Hamburg. After performing and touring all over Europe for the best of a decade, she began focusing exclusively on teaching and relocated to Scotland in 2006. Wanting to find answers related to peak performance and performers’ mental health, she has since studied Psychology and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (University of the West of Scotland) and added further qualifications in Counselling (with a special interest in Crisis & Trauma) and Somatic Therapy to her skills. She continues to further her knowledge in third wave CBT (e.g. Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction/Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy). Petra’s vision is access to continuous mental health support for every performer, and that looking after our mental and emotional health becomes preventative instead of curative.

Sophie has been singing professionally for the past 27 years and teaching for 15 of those. Having started out her career with The National Youth Theatre of Great Britain she decided upon a career in contemporary singing. She was the very first artist to play the main stage at London’s O2 Arena, has 4 studio albums under her belt, written for film and set up the UK’s first and only support group VoxOp. The group provided a space for singers experiencing vocal issues to come together. VoxOp was set up after Sophie had her own career-threatening vocal operation in the middle of recording her solo album GENES. She completed her MA in vocal pedagogy in 2019. Her research focused on singing and wellbeing. She is now a specialist working with brain injury, dementia and children providing her own unique approach to using singing, songwriting and music to make an impact on peoples lives in a positive way. At the end of 2020 she published her first book ‘The Creative Songwriting Journal’ which has since developed a range of workshops that have run successfully throughout lockdown. Her 2nd book titled ‘My Imagination Planner’ is going to be published in April of 2021.
Dr. Rani Lill Anjum is Researcher in Philosophy and co-director of the NMBU Centre for Applied Philosophy of Science at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. She was the Principal Investigator of CauseHealth – Causation, Complexity and Evidence in Health Sciences – funded by the Research Council of Norway (NFR) and now leads the CauseHealth research together with Elena Rocca. Rani’s research is on the relationship between philosophy and science. In particular, she is interested in philosophical biases in science, which are basic implicit philosophical assumptions that tacitly motivate scientific methods, norms and practice. She is co-author of four monographs with Stephen Mumford: Getting Causes from Powers (OUP 2011), Causation – A Very Short Introduction (OUP 2013), Causation in Science and the Methods of Scientific Discovery (OUP 2018) and What Tends to Be. The Philosophy of Dispositional Modality (Routledge 2018). Her most recent publication is the transdisciplinary CauseHealth book, Rethinking Causality, Complexity and Evidence for the Unique Patient. A CauseHealth Resource for Healthcare Professionals and the Clinical Encounter (Springer Open 2020). The book is written by three philosophers, eight clinicians and one patient.

Dr Pippa Wheble lives and works in Edinburgh as a General Practitioner, Performing Arts Medicine Specialist, Researcher, Lecturer and Breathwork Practitioner. She has worked as an assessing clinician, mentor and trainer for BAPAM (The British Association for Performing Arts Medicine) since 2018. Pippa is an accomplished musician (violin, viola & voice). She is passionate about mental health and resilience in the performing arts, specializing in anxiety management and has introduced Breathwork in music industry, healthcare and the corporate setting as a technique for personal development and improved well-being. In addition to her clinical work, she has led the BAPAM Community Drop-In – providing online peer support for performing artists since the COVID-19 lockdown. She is passionate about empowering and connecting people and driven to generate a strong scientific and professional basis to support the introduction of breathwork into the mainstream.
Lydia completed her four year BSc in Speech and Language Therapy in 2015, at the University of Reading. Lydia spent two years working with swallowing disorders, before undertaking comprehensive clinical training in Voice and Upper Airway disorders. Alongside her work at Voice Care Centre, Lydia provides NHS outpatient voice therapy as well as running the Joint Voice Clinic at Wexham Park Hospital, alongside renowned laryngologist Declan Costello. She is a trainer with the innovating Vocal Health Education and Vocal Massage Training UK. She has attended the Estill level 1 and 2 courses with The Voice Explained and has trained in Vocal Massage, Myofascial Release and further laryngeal manipulation, with Stephen King.
Lydia Flock is a dynamic singing and speaking voice coach, practitioner, and researcher. She is graduate of the internationally respected Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (MA in Music Theatre) as well as the University of Virginia (BA in Drama, with honours). Her educational background also includes 2.5 years of training at the esteemed Ithaca College (New York) in their BFA Musical Theatre programme. Lydia is a qualified Vocal Health First Aider with Vocal Health Education, has expertise in Knight-Thompson Speechwork, and is a member of the Voice and Speech Trainers Association, the British Voice Association, and is an associate member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. She is due to qualify in Vocal Massage Training with the Voice Care Centre in 2021. As a voice teacher and practitioner, Lydia founded Flockstars Coaching, a holistic voice coaching company in London and online that uses the speaking and singing voice as a vehicle for healing, confidence building and personal development. She is on the visiting staff for Arts Educational Schools, London and is Senior Voice Tutor at the Kogan Academy of Dramatic Arts. Her unique interest in the interactions between voicework and wellbeing have led to collaborations with Real Talk Practice (Danielle Pinals, LMHC) and The Creative Genius (Nicolette Wilson-Clarke). Lydia is a promising academic and is dedicated to evidence-based practice. Her research titled Freedom of the Singing Voice: An Exploration of the Mind-Body Connection, Performance Anxiety and Confidence through Methods of Fitzmaurice Voicework, Organic Intelligence, and Ziva Meditation is currently in press with the renowned academic journal, Voice and Speech Review. Lydia is passionate about research and development and is committed to incorporating the latest research in voice science within her professional practice.
Amelia is a leading Musical Theatre vocal coach specialising in young voices and performance anxiety coaching. Amelia spent her childhood immersed in theatre land, performing notably at Theatre Royal Drury Lane and The Royal Albert Hall before training in professional Musical Theatre at Bird College and London Studio Centre. During a successful performing career, Amelia fell in love with teaching young performers and has done so for 18 years. In this time Amelia was founder and Director of a large performing arts studio in Sussex until 2018. Amelia now teaches professional Musical Theatre performers in London and Worldwide online and is part of the singing faculty at Laine Theatre Arts, as well as delivering online teacher courses. Amelia has combined her vast industry knowledge, study of vocal pedagogy and a passion for Musical Theatre to become a go-to coach for young singers aspiring a professional theatrical career. In 2019 Amelia completed an MA in Vocal Pedagogy with University of Wales, in which she developed a strategy for teaching performance enhancement skills to singers. Amelia has recently founded an online singing school for aspiring young performers, enabling young singers to access daily high quality singing lessons and lectures.
Nicki Kennedy is an experienced teacher with an interest in vocal health and pedagogy. She has a long association with National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and leads the vocal department at the Jersey Academy of Music. She taught Choral Scholars at Christ’s College, Cambridge University, led vocal departments at Repton and Gresham’s schools and taught for over 15 years on the Rodolfus Choral Courses. She runs an online charity choir, Aureole Music, formed during the Covid 19 pandemic. Nicki has had a vibrant and diverse career as a performer. She is a soloist specialising in Baroque and Classical music and has been privileged to be associated with orchestras in France, Germany, Italy and the U.K., with whom she has toured and recorded in concerts and operas from the U.S.A and Mexico to Japan, Egypt, and all of Europe’s most prestigious festivals. Her last significant tour before family commitments took over and her focus shifted away from touring, was in France and at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam with King’s College Choir and the Academy of Ancient Music singing Monteverdi’s Vespers. She frequently appeared at the Wigmore Hall with the Brook Street Band and has had a particularly fruitful collaboration with Florence’s specialist orchestra, Modo Antiquo, with whom she performed many concerts and operas of Vivaldi’s music. Nicki has made contributions to major movie blockbusters over the last 20 years with Metro Voices and London Voices, appearing on soundtracks like Pirates of the Caribbean, The Hobbit, Harry Potter, Shrek, and many others.
Phoene Cave is an HCPC registered music therapist and clinical supervisor. She is a singer, vocal coach and a qualified shiatsu practitioner. She has worked in music with communities in nurseries, schools, hospitals, prisons and refugee hostels as well as teaching and lecturing across education, community music and music therapy settings over many years. She set up Singing for Breathing work at six major London hospitals, delivering in three of them, including the first hospital based intervention in 2008 at the Royal Brompton before moving on to become the Head of Music Services for London at Nordoff Robbins. In 2015 She was invited to write and deliver a Singing for Lung Health training programme for the British Lung Foundation and has trained 200 new singing leaders, 80 of them funded by the BLF. She was head of the vocal team for Richmond Music Trust as well as Head of Music Services London region at Nordoff Robbins where she managed a large team of music therapists. As a music therapist, Phoene spent 2 years working at HMP & YOI Bronzefield with the prison’s most challenged and challenging women, as well as in the mother and baby unit. In 2018 she moved to the south coast of England and until COVID hit was working with children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs. Line’s mission is to raise industry standards for vocal, mental and physical health and wellbeing in people who use their voice professionally. She takes a functional approach to training the voice, and a holistic approach to working with the performer. Drawing on a diverse pool of training, qualifications, experiences and skills her coaching also involves work around mindset freedom, health and wellbeing and resilience. As a singing teacher Line has been fortunate to work in a variety of settings from HE to running her own private practice where she has worked with a wide range of singers, artists and pro session singers including Andrew Roachford (Cuddly Toy), Sam Brown (Stop), Nate James (MOBO nominee), Anita Wardell (BBC Jazz Best Vocalist) , Crissie Rhodes (The Shires), Alesha Dixon, Andy Abraham (X Factor runner up), Katy Holmes-Smith (BV singer for Adele, Christina Aguilera, Professor Green, Olly Murs) and singer/songwriter Frances (Katy Perry, Dua Lipa, Jess Glynn). As well as running her private practice, Line is a singing teacher trainer for BAST Training, an industry speaker, BAPAM Educational Trainer and guest lecturer.
Juliet Russell is a music creative – a singer, composer, choir MD and vocal coach whose work spans the music, arts and entertainment industries. She works with voices to create memorable performances on stage, television and in the community. She is also a composer and vocal arranger, specialising in a cappella choral arrangements, and has written music for television, radio and independent film. She has undertaken post-graduate research in inclusive creative practices to facilitate collaboration in community choirs and singing for lung health, and is a singing for lung health workforce trainer, formerly for the British Lung Foundation. Jono provides vocal coaching for professional singers, contemporary artists and musical theatre performers. He combines a unique compliment of skills to provide a well blended approach to maximise the possibilities of the voice. Jono adapts a holistic approach, with a deep focus on sustainable vocal technique, contemporary vocal styling and dynamic performance skills. Jono has been a senior vocal lecturer at the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) for 10 years where he designed content for the degree vocal curriculum and also an external examiner for other music institutions. He works as a vocal coach for The Voice Kids, The Voice UK, Little Mix The Search, The Masked Singer, Wedding Day Winners and Change Your Tune. An artist and singer in his own right, Jono has also performed with Michael Buble, Paloma Faith, Josh Groban, Nelly, Jamie Cullum, Lemar, George Ezra and Jocelyn Brown, to name a but a few. He has also recently released a new album, Broken Lives available as a digital release on Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal. Jono combines experience on stage and in the studio with a deep understanding of vocal function, to provide an inspirational coaching experience. He has also presented workshops and masterclasses for a variety of occasions, including the AOTOS (Association of Teachers of Singing), British Voice Association, the Voice Council, Vocology in Practice, and has had a cover feature in the iSing online magazine.
Jai Ramage is a freelance Vocal Coach working in TV, theatre and the music industry. TV work includes ‘The Voice UK’ (BBC/ITV), ‘The Voice Kids’ (ITV), ‘Little Mix The Search’ (BBC) and ‘Change Your Tune’ (ITV). She has coached several successful pop artists and bands from the start of their creative journeys through to world tours and multiple albums. She also coaches performers for leading West End roles and consults for top theatrical agents. Jai is a Certified Master Teacher in Estill Voice Training and has a Masters degree in Professional Practice specialising in Vocal Pedagogy. Her academic research projects have investigated: whether existing singing breathing methodologies are suitable when a singer incorporates dance into their performance, how music producers attempt to capture potential in a voice in the recording process and the physiological activity involved in the production of phonemes and their effects on singing. Jai also manages female artist Flo Gallop and indie band Coral Palms. Her passion is empowering singers to move their careers to the next level by helping them reach their artistic and technical potential.
Phoebe holds a degree in Psychology BSc and is currently completing a Sport and Exercise Psychology MSc. Her research is mainly focused on exercise and body image. She has been a Personal Trainer for three years and recently opened up a personal training studio in Hove with her partner. She became a personal trainer to help people change their attitudes surrounding exercise, and her studies have taught her a wealth of information about how to facilitate behaviour change and support clients’ body image and self-perception.
Chloe Spencer MOst, BA, MSc, AVCM. Following a varied career in music, archaeology, forensics, TV and finance, Chloe retrained and graduated from the University College of Osteopathy with a Masters in Osteopathy (MOst). With a background in sports massage, drama and singing (both in teaching and performance) Chloe has a unique insight into manual therapy for the voice. Her approach is both holistic and patient centred: she treats the whole person, not just the voice, and actively encourages the patient to engage in their own recovery through education and home-based ongoing exercises. Her treatments include standard osteopathic techniques of manipulation and soft tissue work, alongside more gentle interventions depending on the individual case. Chloe has also trained in cranial osteopathy with the Sutherland College of Cranial Osteopathy and breathing therapy with Dr Rosalba Courtney, and is interested in optimising breath and respiratory health for the voice. She currently works as a resident osteopath in a clinic in Egham, Surrey.
Carrie is vocal teacher and researcher based across Liverpool and Leeds. Alongside running her own private studio, Pro Vox based in Liverpool, she is also a part-time Popular Vocals Lecturer at Leeds Conservatoire, a Vocal Health Education First Aid Assessor, a Singing Specialist Volunteer at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen Hospital voice clinic, alongside current study as a PhD candidate at the School of Music, University of Leeds specialising in ‘Auditory Processing of the Singing Voice and Hearing Technology’. As a hearing impaired rock singer currently wearing one hearing aid, her recent years of research have taken a specific focus as to ‘how we hear’ and more specifically ‘how singers hear’, alongside ‘the impact of hearing devices/protection during live performance’, which is a field lacking in research. Carrie hopes to bring new theories to light within this subject matter across coming years. Carrie recently completed her MA in Applied Practice of Vocal Pedagogy with Voice Workshop Ltd. alongside recent years worth of CPD in Vocal Anatomy, Vocal Health, Teaching Young and Changing Voices, Auditory Processing, and The Exploration of Tinnitus, to name a few. Prior to recent studies she holds a Teaching Diploma in Popular Vocals from the London College of Music, and a Ba(Hons) Popular Music & Drama and Theatre Studies from Liverpool Hope University. Her perfomance experience spans over 20 years as a dancer, musical theatre performer, actor, flautist, saxophonist, singer-songwriter performing in a variety of venues and performance settings across the Uk, most notably fronting an alternative-rock band since 2015.
Pippa Anderson works with both the speaking and the singing voice. She is a senior lecturer and vocal health consultant for the musical theatre programme at Leeds Conservatoire, a voice and performance tutor at Newcastle University, a recommended singing teacher (vocal health and rehabilitation) at Durham University, a British Association for Performing Arts Medicine registered Vocal Rehabilitation Coach, a Vocal Rehabilitation Coach in a voice clinic for performers at Freeman Hospital and she represents ‘the spoken voice’ on the Education Working Party panel for the British Voice Association. In addition to a roles listed above, Pippa also runs a busy private practice working with actors and contemporary commercial artists and she facilitates workshops and masterclasses throughout the UK.
Sarah Wright-Owens. BSc (Hons) SLT, GBSM, PG Cert. Sarah is a Singing Teacher, a registered Vocal Rehabilitation Coach for the British Association of Performing Arts Medicine, and an NHS Clinical Vocal Consultant at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. Having initially trained as an Opera Singer, she toured the UK and abroad for several years before qualifying as a Speech and Language Therapist. She now combines her knowledge of the speaking voice into her coaching. Sarah is currently a visiting specialist lecturer at the University of Birmingham and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. In private practice she coaches students of all ages and abilities. She has been a vocal coach with theatre companies such as The Royal Shakespeare Company, and a number of national musical tours including ‘Grease’ and ‘We Will Rock You’. She has also coached professional Bhangra singers and CCM artists when preparing for studio and live performances. Sarah runs a ‘Singing for Lung Health and Wellbeing’ group in Birmingham which is supported by the British Lung Foundation and is a Director of the British Voice Association.
